Most visitors are a little shocked (to put it mildly) when they arrive at Animal Town. Despite the fact that the name of the town gives a slight indication to passers-by that the inhabitants of the town are ‘not normal’, it’s as if people don’t believe things until the see them with their own eyes!
Once you get used to being in Animal Town – or so they say – seeing an orangutan behind a desk in a sheriff’s office and upholding the law to an impeccably high standard becomes relatively ‘normal’… Imagine you are a visitor in Animal Town. Try to describe your experience. Alternatively, you could be one of the residents… |

What crime could Jesus be accused of committing under Roman law?
It is sugested that Jesus drew the attention of authorities due to his actions in the temple. Watch the next two clips.
Who would be angry with the actions of Jesus?
Who would be angry with the actions of Jesus?
In your books complete the following statement:
As a result of his actions in the Temple, under Roman law of the time, Jesus could be charged with ... (You may need to go back and check your list of crimes.)
Now there were some STRANGE laws in Roman times...
Watch the following clip. Begin at 1.50 mins as the start is purely advertisement.
As you are watching write down in your books 5 things that were unlawful in Ancient Rome that we would find quite strange today. Use the heading Strange Laws of Ancient Rome.
For a change of pace:
Let's move away from Ancient Rome for a while and have a look at something that is impacting on all of us.
Behind the News - Covid 19Watch the episode below (you can stop around 10 minutes or watch the whole video). I don't mind. Then you will need to do some research about some other viruses that have impacted our lives throughout history.
What is a virus? Choose one type of virus to research in more detail.
You can present this however you would like - poster, video, Google Slide, rap song, etc. Try to provide key information like: where it started, how many people were infected, when it was happening, where it was happening etc. There will be an Assignment on Google Classroom/Classwork for you to submit your work.
Some example viruses include:
SARS Rabies Marburg Virus
Smallpox Ebola MERS
Bonus - The Black Plague (not a virus, but still super interesting)

**Note - These are the craziest viruses we have seen in all of our known history. Whilst Corona Virus is a serious issue, it will not be as outrageous and scary as the viruses above. If we all look after ourselves then this will be over in a flash.
WRITING: We are learning in different ways!
Take this opportunity to write about how we are all now learning in different ways, as a result of current challenges.
* Write this as an article. So, just basically tell me what it is like for you. You can use first person. Think about your sentences and paragraphs.
* Use the above heading as your title.
* Think about how your experience of learning has changed, now that you are learning remotely.
* Some areas you may like to talk about are: (you do not have to cover all of these)
friends no travel to and from school working online lesson times school uniform PC sport working independently
* Experiences of school you are missing.
* Experiences of learning remotely you are enjoying.
NB. This is YOUR experience - be aware to respect the privacy of others in your family.
You may like to draft this in your book. This will allow you to edit before submitting your final copy. Then, you could produce your final copy on a Google doc and upload to Google classroom where I will place an Assignment.
How long should this be? I am hoping you will have many things to talk about. At least four paragraphs; but don't stop there if you have more to say.

Going back to Roman Rule in the Time of Jesus
Jesus found himself in trouble for two things:
1. Disturbing the peace in the temple
2. He was accused of claiming that he was the King of the Jews.
Firstly, he was brought before the Saddducees. Use this link to find out who they were and what authority they had. Write your definition in your book.
Then Jesus was delivered to Pontius Pilate. Google search: Pontius Pilate - who was he? Write answer in your book.
12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.” John 19:12
Who was Caesar?
Only Caesar could be King, so in this way they could accuse Jesus of treason. The punishment for treason was crucifixion.
YOUR TASK: According to Roman Law, how was the crucifixion of Jesus justified?
(HINTS: Jesus was NOT a Roman citizen; the crime with which hew had been charged; a warning to others.)
Use the following prezi about punishment under Roman Law to answer this task.
(If you have not used prezi before, you simply move around the site by using the arrows at the bottom of the slide.)

FINALLY:
If we think laws were strange in Roman times ...

FOR FUN:
Think about actions that were normal only weeks ago but, for the time being, we can no longer particpate in.
List 5 of these actions.
Then, using the information from the prezi above, apply Roman punishments for anyone disobeying the current laws. For example
Having a birthday party with five friends - sentenced to fight against wild animals.
